Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc White wine is grown primary in two regions, Loire Valley of France and Marlborough in New Zealand. This dry wine has herbal tone for the one produced in France and tropical fruit and gooseberry flavors for New Zealand. The great thing about this wine is that it can be consumed with any type of food whether its vegetable dishes, or Thai food. The Taung Che primary vineyard was mostly planted with Sauvignon Blanc since 2004 to 2007. We now have 22 ha of this variety in both vineyards. The cool climate of the Southern Shan State of Myanmar is very well adapted for this variety.

Muscat Petit Grain

The Muscat Blanc Petits Grains (white Muscat with small berries) is the oldest of all known vines. This very aromatic white variety is mostly used around the world to produce sweet white wines.

Our estate has planted 7 ha in 2005 at Myaye Phyu vineyard.

This very well known white variety is originally from Burgundy French appellations such as Montrachet or Chablis. It is also very successful in new world vineyard areas such as Californian Napa Valley and all other wine regions of the world.

This variety is not growing very well in our sub-tropical climate. We have planted 1.5 ha as an experiment in 2004 and 2005. The yield is still very low in 2010 as we got only 2 barrels.

Shiraz (or Syrah)

Despite being exactly the same, this grape is known as Syrah in France and Shiraz in California and Australia. In France, Syrah grows through the Rhone Valley, and prospers in its northern region. It is a powerful, weighty wine with notes of black pepper and bacon. On the other side of the world, the grape has become synonymous with Australian red wine.

We have planted a total of 27 ha between 2003 and 2007. Most of them have been planted in 2007, so they’re still very young vines.

Pinot Noir

The Pinot Noir is well known as the unique variety used for the famous red wines of Burgundy. It is also used in other temperate region such as New Zealand (Central Otago) or the state of Oregon in United State.

This variety is surprisingly growing very well in our climate, giving a reasonable yield every year.

Surface planted: 7 ha

In Spain, Tempranillo is the foundation of the great red wines of Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Tempranillo can produce wines of exceptionally dark color which are lush and seductive rather than complex, with intense black fruit flavors of black cherry, raspberry, currant and notes of plums and tobacco. Also grown in Argentina, Australia, South Africa and Mexico.

Surface planted: 3.5 ha

This variety has been planted in our vineyard with the advice of our consultant, Professor Hudelot, after being successfully planted in Tahiti. The plants are growing very well in our area giving very good yield and grapes. It’s originally grown in the southern vineyards of France.

Petit Verdot

Petit Verdot is thought to be native to western Bordeaux, likely present in the Médoc . It is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon. The plants are not growing very well in our climate.
Surface planted: 2 ha

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is the grape variety for producing fine red wines. It is used in blends and as a varietal wine across the world.

Our Wines

In Red Mountain Estate, we produce a range of premium wines inclusive of Red Wine, White Wine, and Rose Wine. Red Wines are typically known for its dark-colored grape varieties. For lighter moods, White Wine’s the best choice; known for its fermentation without skin contact. The color may vary from yellowish to yellow gold which comes from the alcoholic fermentation of the non-colored pulp of grapes. Lastly, Rose Wines, it is a type of wine that incorporates some of the colors from the grape skins, but not too much to make it red. There are a lot of ways to produce Rose Wine depending on the varietals used as well as the winemaking techniques. There are a lot of interesting facts about these wines.
